The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) has been designated through the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) to administer the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Recreational Trails Program (RTP). The RTP provides for a State and Local trails assistance grant program. The RTP is linked to the development and implementation of the Statewide Trails Plan therefore the Grant Program Assistant will also work closely with the Statewide Trails Program Planner.
The Grant Program Assistant will interpret legislation and regulations of the RTP; disseminate program information including grants criteria, eligibility, availability, and procedural requirements; coordinate and oversee the statutory review and award phase of the grant process; and supervise final payment of grant funding. The Grant Program Assistant will coordinate with OPRHP’s Budget Unit, and act as liaison with NYSDOT and FHWA.
The Grant Program Assistant is funded through the Natural Heritage Trust (NHT) and the selected candidate will be an employee of the NHT with work conducted under the supervision of the OPRHP Director of Planning, yet work closely with OPRHP Grants Bureau Staff to administer the program. Funding for this position is subject to annual renewal and will be continued based on program needs and availability of funds.
